Local inspiration: Surry Hills

This month we’re exploring local inspiration from our DC neighbourhoods around the Globe. First up is Cantina, the new shop from our favourite Italian restaurant, Pasta Emilia, in Surry Hills.
Siobhan and Helen represented the DC team at Cantina’s launch party, located under the acclaimed restaurant, in what used to be their garage. The space has been transformed into a rustic and charming shop – and soon to be café.  Guests enjoyed an amazing range of delicious pastas and savoury treats, but the stand-out was definitely the mushroom & ricotta tortilla with truffle cream sauce!
The interior design of both the restaurant & the shop reflects their traditional approach to food, and to the origin of their recipes, the Italian region of Emilia Romagna. We love the imported hand made ceramics, baskets, antique timber furniture, and the use of their beautiful products to accessorise the space.
Founder & owner of Pasta Emilia, Anna Maria, says that its important to them to use “local, certified organic, biodynamic and sustainable ingredients supplied by farmers, herders, fishers, butchers & bakers”. She and her team are passionate about “traditional knowledge and artisanal techniques”, and that they work with “respect for the environment preserving our resources and culture for future generations to enjoy as we do now”. We’re sold!
