Design Clarity came across a new & innovative concept based on sustainable fashion & recycling clothes. Recently launched, “Shwopping” is a nationwide ethical project based on “swapping & shopping” in association with Marks & Spencer to prevent the throwing away of the standard one billion garments a year, which ultimately end up in landfills.
The concept is to “bring in something old, buy something new” at any Marks & Spencer retailer which will then be resold or recycled by their partner Oxfam, a leading UK charity fighting poverty. The initiative was launched and celebrated this month in Brick Lane, an area of central London popular for its second-hand & trendy fashion stores. The entire street & surrounding buildings were covered with the amount equivalent to the clothes being thrown away every five minutes in the UK. The final result is a colourful and striking exterior display.
