New range & New store
The launch of the first standalone Bonds Kids boutique at Westfield Doncaster in Melbourne establishes an energetic family landmark within the competitive children’s fashion market. Driven by a brief to promote an all-new apparel range, the interior architecture delivers a highly imaginative retail landscape where commercial functionality is carefully balanced with quirky, beautiful detailing. The store’s layout rejects the sterile format of traditional clothing shops, opting instead for a transparent, inviting threshold that dissolves the boundary between the busy mall concourse and an interior full of texture, color, and play.
The storefront sets a sophisticated yet accessible tone, framed by a sweeping valance decorated with a custom, light-toned timber geometric patchwork pattern. Inside, the open-plan layout organizes a symmetrical matrix of low-profile merchandising islands—including minimalist white metal A-frame garment racks and miniature circular display tables with playful pink powder-coated legs. This low-slung furniture strategy keeps sightlines completely open across the store, grounded by a premium herringbone timber floor that runs continuously into every corner. Overhead, a complex network of white structural wires and adjustable track lighting neatly structures the high ceiling volume, casting focused pools of light onto the densely color-blocked perimeter wall displays.
Every touchpoint has been customized to engage both parents and children through a tactile material narrative. High-density clothing departments are defined by elevated white timber display ledges showcasing large, bright lifestyle photography canvases against a backdrop of crisp white gloss subway tiles. Suspended dynamically against these tiled walls are inventive swagged lighting fixtures, where colorful cords loop from oversized, turned-timber button wall hooks that look like giant fasteners. This playful detailing flows directly into the fitting room zone, which features a white-painted brick wall accented with scattered pastel graphics, a sweeping neutral linen drape, and a soft, teal-knitted pouf ottoman. The journey culminates at a monolithic cash wrap desk clad in pixelated multi-colored ceramic tiles, completing a cohesive, high-energy retail ecosystem that turns a standard shopping trip into a memorable experience of discovery.
