This detail of the Melbourne branch shows how the design uses domestic-style furniture to create a sense of calm and familiarity. By borrowing elements from residential living rooms—often referred to as "resimercial" design—the branch moves away from the cold, intimidating feel of traditional banking halls. This approach encourages members to relax and feel at home, which is especially important when they are waiting for appointments or discussing significant financial decisions with staff.

The seating area is anchored by a high-quality, three-seater sofa in a warm tan leather, paired with a couple of contemporary grey armchairs with timber frames. This combination of textures feels premium yet inviting. To add a splash of colour and personality, botanical-print cushions have been added to the sofa, while a low-profile timber coffee table sits in the middle. On the table, simple touches like a vase of fresh flowers and a bowl of fruit reinforce the hospitality-focused nature of the branch, making it feel less like a corporate office and more like a community hub.

Underneath the furniture, a custom circular rug features a bold, geometric pattern in shades of grey, cream, and vibrant orange. This rug serves two purposes: it defines the lounge as its own distinct "room" within the open-plan layout, and it helps to dampen sound, making the area feel quieter and more private. To the right, a black planter box acts as a soft partition between the lounge and the rest of the branch. It is filled with lush, green plants that add a natural element to the interior, helping to improve air quality and reduce visitor stress.

The wall behind the sofa is finished in a light oak veneer, featuring a long, recessed alcove that is illuminated from below by hidden LED lighting. This creates a soft, warm glow that washes over the surfaces and highlights a curated gallery of black-and-white minimalist artwork. A bright yellow structural column stands to the left, adding a vertical splash of the brand’s signature colour and tying the zone back to the rest of the branch’s identity. Every detail here, from the arched floor lamp to the carefully selected finishes, has been chosen to create a sophisticated yet unpretentious environment.
