Following a rigorous twelve-month transformation, the €7 million modernization of CineStar Kristall-Palast Bremen completely alters the paradigm of commercial cinema architecture. The design replaces conventional, high-volume theater layouts with an adaptable entertainment ecosystem that bridges premium hospitality, social gathering, and next-generation projection technology.
By prioritizing spatial volume, acoustic management, and tactile material transitions, the facility functions seamlessly as both a public cultural anchor and an elevated venue for corporate hospitality.
The floor plan is organized around a multi-level atrium unified under a monumental, daylight-filled glass barrel vault. On the ground level, a spacious public plaza seamlessly integrates retail storefronts with relaxed, biophilic rest pockets detailed in custom-milled timber benches and mature indoor planting. Circulation paths are highly intuitive; an open monumental staircase and dual escalators draw visitors upward into the first-floor hospitality lounges and streamlined concession concourses, creating an intentional sense of architectural progression.
Material choices serve a vital role in grounding the grand scale of the building. Extensive feature walls utilizing warm, three-dimensional ThermoWood® panels wrap the social hubs, softening the presence of the building’s industrial steel trusses and improving acoustics in high-traffic corridors.
This organic warmth transitions into high-contrast drama at the entrance of the flagship V-Max auditorium. Here, a matte charcoal portal and dark acoustic fabric walls are paired with integrated linear LED graphics to craft a focused, visually intimate transition that prepares patrons for the advanced sensory environment inside.
